Two Atlas students drilling a no-gi guard position

Program · No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

No-gi jiu-jitsu in Meridian.

Fast, fluid, and built for the real world. No-gi is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a rashguard and shorts — the style used in modern competition and the most direct path to practical self-defense.

  • Every class, all levels

Structured instruction, positional drilling, and controlled live rounds. Beginners learn safely; advanced students refine what matters.

  • Less grip, more control

Without the gi you can't hang on to fabric. Training rewards position, pressure, and timing — skills that transfer to any situation.

  • Black-belt instruction

Led by head instructor Chase Riddick, a black belt in the Keith Owen / Pedro Sauer lineage.

What a class looks like

Every no-gi class at Atlas runs 60 minutes:

  1. Warm-up — movement drills that build the hip escapes, rolls, and base you'll use all class.
  2. Technique — a focused position or sequence, broken down step by step.
  3. Drilling — reps with a partner at a controlled pace until the technique sticks.
  4. Live rounds — optional sparring, matched to your level and intensity.

Why train no-gi at Atlas

Atlas specializes in no-gi. It's not an extra class tacked onto a gi program — it's everything we do. That means the curriculum, the drilling, and the live rounds are all built around modern no-gi grappling: control, takedowns, guard work, and submissions, including the leg lock systems taught in advanced classes.

You'll train in a culture built on respect over rank: no politics, no drama, no egos. And your membership includes 24/7 access to The Mecca Gym for strength and conditioning.

Questions

No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu: FAQ

What is no-gi jiu-jitsu?

No-gi is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practiced without the traditional kimono (gi). You train in a rashguard and grappling shorts, so techniques rely on body position and control instead of gripping clothing.

Is no-gi good for beginners?

Yes. Every Atlas class is open to all levels, and most of our students started with zero experience. You'll learn fundamentals first and build from there.

Is no-gi better for self-defense?

No-gi trains you to control a resisting opponent without relying on grips on a jacket, which is closer to most real-world situations — and it translates directly to wrestling and MMA.

What do I wear?

For your first class, athletic clothes with no zippers, pockets, or buttons. After that, a rashguard and grappling shorts (spats optional).
